Prince Richard - A Lady Never Lies by Stephanie Burkhart

Thank you for bringing Prince Richard to visit Steph, he's absolutely gorgeous.
Sue

Question: Thanks so much for joining us today, Prince Richard. Inquiring minds want to know: How did you meet Lady Jocelyn Ridgecroft.  She's sooooo… involved in her work.

Richard: Quite by accident, I assure you. The time machine plunked me down in a pile of dirt on my derrière next to a black oil quarry. It was hot, dusty, and rusty. I took off my cravat and trudged over to the quarry in search of a drink and some information and what do I discover but the dirtiest woman in the world looking up at me with the widest, most sincere eyes and calling me a rogue for having my necktie off. A part of me wanted to strangle her and the other part wanted to kiss her.

Question: What attracted you to Jocelyn?

Richard: The girls in my century paint their nails, dye their hair and wear the tightest fitting clothes to grab my attention. They tell me they feel sorry for me because of why my mother died, and then talk about the most insipid things in the world like their favorite nail polish and ask me if Henry VIII really was like his portrayal in "The Tudors." Let me assure you nail polish does not catch my attention., and Henry VIII is quite dead. Jocelyn was the first woman I met who cared more for the world and people around her than herself. I also adored her eyes, bright and sparkling, full of life and personality. I wanted to get to know that woman.

Question: So what are you attracted to in a woman?

Richard: I want her to have a personality that shines. I grew up taught to respect the world and those in it, so that's important to me. I want her to be warm and caring, a bit daring with a sense of adventure, honest and trustworthy. I notice eyes first, they truly are windows to the soul, then lips, then….ah, it wouldn't be gentlemanly if I continued.

Question: How are things going with you and Jocelyn now?

Richard: Tough, I'm afraid. Her father was gravely hurt, and I'm afraid it's my fault. She's been barely civil to me. Then the Prime Minister has asked her to go to York to mediate a coal strike. She hates to leave her father. I'm hoping my constant presence and quiet support will win over her heart.

Question: How do you define hero?

Richard: Oh, that's another tough one. A hero does many difficult things well. He looks danger in the eye then spits in it. He accomplishes his task in the face of adversity. He does not run away from problems, he runs into them. He's not afraid to cry when tears are called for.

Question: When was the last time you cried?

Richard: At my mother's funeral. She died in a plane accident when I was a teenager.

Question: Who is your own personal hero?

Richard: Historically, Winston Churchill. He got his chops beat in World War I, but he looked adversity in the eye, spit, and learned his lessons before standing firm against Nazi aggression. Closer to home, my mother is my hero. I saw her face down reporters. She went against the old fashioned established royal protocol. She was honest and always true to heart.

BLURB FOR A LADY NEVER LIES:
Jocelyn Dunkirk is not your typical Victorian lady. She dresses in leather, wears goggles and is not afraid to get a little grease under her fingernails. Gentlemen avoid her like a dirty rivet.

Richard Windsor, the Prince of Wales, travels through time to claim Jocelyn's heart, but if it isn't one challenge, it's another. He determines to be a constant, steady presence in her life, hoping to prove he'd make a worthy husband.

Jocelyn's facing a bucket full of problems. The Prime Minister wants her to assist in ending a coal strike before it cripples the nation while her father attempts to recover from a serious injury. Will Jocelyn's dedication to her country and family ruin the one chance she has at love?

EXCERPT:
She swatted her hand next to her head like she was swatting a fly. Love could flitter away from her heart like a hummingbird for all she cared. Who needed it? Love hurt.

A knock rapped on the door, but before she could voice a reply, Richard walked in. He crossed the room, raw concern splayed over his face and he knelt before her. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing."
"You look annoyed."

"A lady never cusses," she replied.

His lips tipped in amusement. "What else does a lady never do?"

"They never wear the same dress twice."

He pulled up a chair and sat in front of her. "I believe that."

"And a lady never lies," she said.

He slid his hand over hers and laced their fingers together. A sweet jolt pulsed up her arm and she smiled despite herself.

"So what's bothering you?" he asked.

The Secret Door by Stephanie Burkhart

REVIEW

The Secret Door - Budapest Moon Book 4

The Budapest Moon series shows us werewolves have feelings too. There are good and bad in their species as there are in humans. Humans do not understand how a werewolf's nature and honour work and because of this the wolves must hide their true nature from fellow humans.

The Secret Door is a gripping story from beginning to end. It starts with a chase, a fight and a problem to be solved. This led me through the book as each chapter solved some problems but  brought more issues to the forefront of the story. A wolf is slain when he tries to recover his witch from an enemy. This starts a feud between the clan of the killed wolf and the one who has the witch. The fact the witch wishes to stay with her abductor means nothing to the warring clan, they believe they have the right and will not stop until the witch is returned.

Ms Burkhart shows us how even a rogue wolf can turn from bad to good if he is guided along the right path. A human can fall in love with a werewolf if the wolf can prove he is not evil. I came to a greater understanding of werewolves as I read this novel. I always assumed no matter the nature of their human side, their wolf side was evil. The author showed me this is not always so and love can bloom in the weirdest places. The characters of this book had their own lives, problems and careers before they all came together which provided them with a rich depth making the story even more alluring. Well done Ms Burkhart, The Secret Door is a tribute to your talent as a writer.

BLURB:

EXCERPT

"Can you hang garlic plants among the peppers? Even as men the garlic should keep Marcus and his brothers away." Zoltan stood at the entrance to the garden, his soulful grey-blue eyes unable to hide his disgust at the damage before him.

"We have some garlic, but not enough for the entire crop," replied Tomas.

"If Marcus sends his gypsies who aren't wolves, the garlic won't stop them." Sophia studied Zoltan. He now exuded a feral masculinity in his firm expression and an air of command in his voice. He appeared well rested and it was early in the day -- 12:30 p.m. Usually, her parents didn't get up until 2 p.m. after a transformation.

"We'll need the patrols, too." Zoltan paused, glancing at Tomas.

Tomas nodded. "I believe there's a farmer's market in Sopron's main square today. I'll send a crew out to buy as much as they can, but I don't think it will be enough."

"Send some workers to Györ to buy from their markets as well," suggested Sophia.

"Good idea." Tomas clasped his hands before him, and Sophia spied a spark of hope on his face.

"I suggest you focus on that task, Tomas. It needs to be completed by nightfall. I'm going to confront Marcus."

Sophia furrowed her brow. "Now?"

"Yes, now. Do you have an auto?"

"I do, but--"

"Then I hope you don't mind if I borrow it."

Sophia pursed her lips, disapproving of his request. "Have you thought this out?"

"Marcus is a beast. I will not cower to him, and I want him to know it."

"Then I'll come with you."

"No." His voice was firm.

"If you want to use my auto, I'm going with you."

"This isn't your problem."

"You made it mine when you brought Inna here," she retorted.

Who is the Gentleman and the Rogue?

SUE: I'd like to welcome Lady Keira Russell from "A Gentleman and a Rogue" (Book 2 in the steampunk Windsor Diaries Series) to the blog today. Keira, I'm curious, what's a lady doing working in a quarry in England in 1855?

KEIRA: I'm up to my elbows in compressed natural gas! It all started when my father, Sir John Russell, left his post as prime minister. He feels very passionately about finding alternate fuel sources. Sadly, London is full of coal dust and that's not good for the lungs. We settled in Lincoln and Papa decided to explore wind power. I share his passion for the greater good and I work with compressed natural gas.

SUE: Gosh, you sound so busy. Don't you have a social life?

KEIRA: I have to admit, I didn't have one for along time, but things are picking up.

SUE: Picking up? How so?

KEIRA: Edmund Windsor is back. That scoundrel! That rogue! He's a liar and a cheat and a mischief-maker.

SUE: That's harsh.

KEIRA: He told me he loved me and then poof! He took the time traveling machine back to 2011.

Keira Knightly
SUE: So, what's he doing back in 1855? Trying to win your heart again?

KEIRA: Him and his cousin, Alice, are up to their elbows in rivets, brass, iron, mischief, and steam.

SUE: I noticed you avoided that last question.

KEIRA: I'm sorry, what was it?

SUE: Is he trying to win your heart again?

KEIRA: One kiss does not mean I forgive him.

SUE: Do I detect a little too much protest in your voice?

KEIRA: None at all. Just because Edmund resembles Adonis, has a keen sense of wit, and a dimple to die for doesn’t mean I'm going to give my heart to him again.

SUE: So did Edmund come back to "woo" you, or does he have another agenda?

KEIRA: Another agenda, of course! He's trying to convince Queen Victoria to pick an alternate fuel source so his future time will right itself. It's all complicated – there's alternate futures, parallel universes, and time machines.

SUE: What's the alternate fuel source he wants Queen Victoria to select?

KEIRA: Compressed natural gas of all things!

SUE: I suspect he wants a second chance.

KEIRA: I’m highly skeptical. He's got to prove to me he's more than a good-looking man in a neck cloth.

SUE: Is Edmund a gentleman or a rogue?

KEIRA: Ladies never tell.

SHORT BLURB: When Edmund travels back in time to set the future straight, will his love for Keira derail his efforts?

ENJOY THIS EXCERPT:
The song ended and Edmund grabbed her hand, tugging her toward the nearest hallway. At first, she wanted to protest; call out for her father and defy Edmund's wishes, but then reason kicked in. She wanted -- no, needed -- answers. And, she had plenty of questions.

They entered the main wing, and passed two rooms before Edmund opened a door and dragged her inside. Books littered the shelves. The library. A beam of light from a full moon shined through the window, casting Edmund's features in sharp, contrasting shadows. He leaned against the door and crossed his arms. His eyes narrowed, giving his expression a dark, hard edge. He looked like a devil in this moment. She steeled her shoulders, ready to do battle with him.

Silence grew between them as they both set their postures. Damn Edmund. She wanted to kiss the devil senseless. Thankfully, she still had her wits.

"What are you doing with Jonas Byron?" Edmund's voice was cold and exact.

"Dancing." She surprised herself with the ease of her retort.

"Looked more like flirting to me."

"Jealous?"

A muscle twitched in his jaw. "No."

"You are a horrible liar."

"Keira, you can't trust him."

She placed her hands on her hips. "Curious, you're the second man tonight to tell me that."

"Grayson has your best interests at heart. You need to listen to him."

"He's been missing for four years." She paused, glaring at him. "Like you have. And I thought you weren't coming back."

"I'm here now, and I'm not leaving you again."

She tilted her head and laughed. Oh, yes, he'd leave her again, and she had no intention of letting her heart get broken.

Edmund lunged forward, placed his hands on her waist, and pulled her against the length of his hard, muscled body, trapping her arms between them so her hands rested on his chest. His emerald eyes flamed with desire. Her heart turned over in response. His unique scent, spice and currants, weakened her resolve. As her memories flooded through her mind, her lips ached for his.

"God, Keira, don't test me like this."
