Not Long Now!

I'm ready to start re-releasing my books, just waiting for the official reversal of rights letters. Half of the covers are redone and tidying up the writing of the current WIP. It's a lot of work but my thoughts go out to Gail and Jenifer. Their workload must be astronomical. Thanks to Gail and Jenifer for their hard work and to the readers for being so patient. First three covers below.

Free Romantic Fantasy Ebook

Another free book with the option to receive another free book. If you read these books and like them it would be lovely if you could post a review on your favourite ebook supplier. Here are the details.

Merhnaz, a free book from the Cloud Kingdom series. Mehrnaz is a prequel to Book 2 of the series - Elisette.

Description
Mehrnaz of Pator and Lusak of Rak live on the planet Hejmen. They fall in love when they meet at a ball in Rak, but her parents wish her to marry Dromarn, heir to the dukedom of Marn. On their first meeting Dromarn lays down the rules for their married life and how his wife should behave. Mehrnaz informs her parents she wishes to marry Lusak, but her mother has no intention of allowing her daughter to marry a second son and refuses to allow Mehrnaz and Lusak to meet. The couple plan to elope but to meet Lusak, Mehrnaz must cross the desert alone.
ExcerptThe mattporter couldn't take the Pator party all at once and they were lifted to the sky castle in groups. Up in the castle the noble family of Rak had already greeted Duke Osrat and his family, now Tikat and his family moved forward.

Duke Davak, his wife Elisette and their three sons waited to greet them. Patak, the eldest, stood with his wife just behind his parents. Dernak, the youngest stood to one side, trying not to cough. He looked quite sickly and Mehrnaz turned to look at the other son. Her breath caught in her throat. Lusak, the Duke's middle son, looked exactly like the heroes in her books.
Dark auburn hair curled down to his collar, while his skin glowed with a tan which told of a life spent mainly outside. He caught her looking at him and winked at her.
"Mehrnaz. Mind your manners."
Her mother's nudge brought her back to her duties and she curtsied to the ducal family then moved on with her parents. Servants arrived to show them to their rooms. As they left the main dock, Mehrnaz glanced over her shoulder. Lusak watched her and this time he grinned at her and mouthed the word later.

Stairway to Heaven

“No fair! Is that all the time I get?” wonders my young heroine of the YA paranormal fantasy Stairway to Heaven. Unfortunately for Minx Reston, sixteen years on earth is all the years she gets to enjoy on this plane of existence. The young actress is kicked in the head by Rudolph the reindeer while filming her cable TV Christmas special.
Lights out. Tough luck, girl. The world as she knows it has come to an end. Next thing Minx realizes, she’s floating above her battered form, looking down as paramedics work to resuscitate her lifeless body. Soon that image disappears as the cord between spirit and flesh is cut. Her time on earth is over. She finds herself floating in a gray void, waiting for the next step in her existence. For she exists as something. Her mind still functions.
The afterlife wouldn’t leave her hanging like this, would it?
But no angel guide comes to conduct her to the Heaven’s Gate, which is the usual procedure for those making the transition from life to death to a brand new life in heaven. There’s been a slipup in procedures. Minx is left hanging but another heavenly being hears her cries of despair. Reid was seventeen when he died in a drowning accident. He’ll always be seventeen in heaven, where he serves as a guardian flyer in a corps of dark-winged angel beings who patrol the lower plane of heaven. They wear leather and carry swords. They need weapons to swing at the demons from hell who intrude and cause mischief. The last thing Reid has time for is a rescue of a transitioning young spirit.
Yet Reid makes time to rescue Minx and fly her to the Stairway to Heaven. Thereby begins their story. A sweet heavenly attachment develops between the two angelic beings, one a ten-year veteran of heaven. One still needing to go through the training phase. I wrote this novel because the question always intrigued me, what happens after a human soul crosses into the great beyond? I know the religious explanations of what is supposed to happen, but I leave all that out in my story. Everyone can believe what they want, but I wanted to produce a fun fantasy that will give readers hope that a bright new life that awaits us all. This is my own fantasy. It does not conform to any religious or spiritual creed. There’s no religious dogma in my story. The scenarios I create will make a reader think and dream and live with hope.
Haven’t we all made a comment about someone who has passed on, “they’re really shaking things up in heaven now.” Surely we have greater tasks ahead of us. Join Minx and Reid on their journey in a new frontier where the possibilities are endless. Have fun.
I wrote this 75K novel partly because I have young relatives who passed at young ages. I believe in the power of heaven’s love for all of us. I’m hoping my loved ones who have passed on are having the grandest time in heaven. Whatever awaits us, we can trust that the angels above are watching over us while we fulfill our time down below.

Lise from Elisette - Cloud Kingdoms Book Two

Elisette
Today the heroine from Elisette, the second book of the Cloud Kingdom series, visits the blog.

Hello Elisette.

Elisette:  Please call me Lise, Elisette is for people who don't know me.

Very well Lise, thank you for visiting us today. Would you like to tell us a bit about your life?

Lise:  There's not much to tell. My mother, father and I lived in Lan until my father died in an accident when I was five years old. We had a happy life until then.

I'm sorry to hear about your father. Did you stay in Lan after his death?

Lise:  Mother and I managed for a while but then she got sick and couldn't work. A widowed farmer from Northside offered us a home if mother would marry him and look after his house and family. Unfortunately we had no other option.

You don't live there any longer do you?

Lise:  No. The men of my stepfamily began to take an interest in me when I started developing as a woman so mother sent me away.

What ever did you do?

Lise: I meant to try for a job in one of the big houses of Lan, but instead the Duchess of Lan engaged me as a nurserymaid to help her children's nanny. I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time.

So what's it like living in a sky castle?

Lise: It's so different. The Duchess has put a proper bathroom in the nursery so I don't have to haul water up for the children's bath. They have dropchutes to move from floor to floor and the nobles travel downside by mattporters. I take the children to the castle gardens when the weather's nice, and did you know the weather is actually decided by the Duke?

Really? So what do you do when you're not working?

Lise: (blushes) I've made friends with a Capet. He's been very kind and shown me how to get downside, where to shop for personal needs. He's nice.

Nice? He's just a friend?

Lise: Well, we have kissed but we're trying to be discreet because it's not a good idea for a capet and an nurserymaid to become a couple. We go for walks in the gardens in the evening and have afternoon tea downside on my days off.

Do you think there's any future in the relationship?

Lise: I don't think so because his parents will want him to marry someone of a better social standing. I'm enjoying things while they last. Sorry I have to get back before the children wake up.

Thank you for talking to us, Lise. I hope everything works out for you and your Capet.

Excerpt

Outside, Lise pondered which way to take to the laundry. Guessing it would be on the same level as the kitchens, she headed for the staircase sack slung over her shoulders and her head bowed as she compensated for the extra weight.
"Watch out!"
Startled by the sudden appearance of a male body, Lise looked up quickly. Capet Sard stood in front of her, hands on hips and a big grin on his face.
"I'm so sorry, Capet. I didn't see you coming."
"Where are you off to?" Sard smiled at her.
"The laundry, sir."
"Here, let me help you. It's far too heavy for you to carry." He reached his hand toward the sack slung over her shoulder, but Lise quickly backed away.
"No, sir, really. I'm a lot stronger than I look. Besides, it wouldn't be right--a Capet like you helping me with my work. Excuse me, please."
Sard blocked her way as Lise tried to push past. He soon realized her determination and raising his hands in surrender took a step toward the wall.
"Thank you, Capet," Lise murmured and hurried toward the staircase.
"You're welcome, Lise."
His voice came from right behind her. He had followed her. How else would she have heard his words, especially when his voice had been low and soft?
"Please, Capet. I thank you for putting me forward for this job, but I really need to prove myself to the Duchess and Mesry Keva. The Mesry thinks you got me the job. I have to show her I can be trusted to do the work allotted to me."
"I understand, Lise." Sard's eyes bored deep into hers, and her head ducked to avoid his searching look. He lifted her chin with his finger and his gaze searched deep within her to find the real Lise. "You can't work all the time. I'll wait until you're on a break and we'll talk."
Lise fled. His touch stirred a wealth of emotions. Emotions her troubled mind had no idea how to deal with. Her thoughts tumbled in turmoil, but her survival instincts still worked and her feet came to an abrupt halt on the stairs as the familiar odors of washing soap and hot water drifted across her path. To her left a heavy wooden door barred her way and Lise tentatively pushed it open.

Jolie by Jaclyn V Di Bona

This excerpt is from Autumn Love which had not yet been published. To see more of Jaclyn V Di Bono's work check out the links at the end of the post.

Excerpt

Nick grasped her hand firmly. "Senora Marini. Benvenuto alla mia sede." That means...”"
"Grazi. Siete molto gentili." That means, thank you, you're very kind." A twitch and the narrowing of his eyes were the only signs she'd surprised him. She'd bet he wasn't pleased and tugged her hand free from his strong grasp.
She tried to ignore the intelligence and hardness that telegraphed, don't mess with me. His tight smile sent a shiver down her spine. He reaffirmed her opinion as he stood the picture of a man no one in his or her right mind dared to cross. She was glad her voice sounded calm and controlled.
"Multo Buon. I see I'm going to have to watch my step around you."
"Not to worry. I won't be here long." Jolie eyed his mouth curling up at the corners as if to say, you want to bet.
His appraisal was sharp. Was he looking for a weakness? She smoothed her features and met his gaze head on. The slight curve of his lips told her he liked that she didn't cower, even while he made her nervous. Careful. Don't challenge. The cool calculating gleam in his eyes told her he may take her up on it.
Oh, I have your number, mister. She couldn't find fault with Nick, for she'd been doing the same assessing.
The sudden need for air in her lungs had her inhaling and exhaling slowly. She couldn't understand the effect he had on her, or how to deal with the situation. She tried, but failed to hide the jolt of sexual awareness she hadn't experienced in ages. Oh, boy, trouble with a capital T. No. Thank her lucky stars, she was leaving as soon as possible.
His brazen interest roamed over her and tightened her nervous stomach muscles. She glanced into his incredible malachite eyes. Eyes that could freeze her in a second or become dark and smoldering. Yet, when he had laughed with the children, she'd seen warmth and affection in the soft blue-green.
She'd swear he mentally undressed her, and sensed he enjoyed making her nervous. The slight quivering of his lips gave him away. She stood straight, chin lifted and waited. He glanced at her with an eyebrow raised.
"Well, Mr. Bianchini?"
Jolie knew she wasn't beautiful or tall, and she considered her features classic. Rob had told her often enough never to play poker, because her eyes gave away her emotions and her mouth could be sensual if she remembered to think before she spoke her mind. She eyed Nicholas with suspicion as he gave her a cool smile.

Jaclyn is a long-time member of Romance Writers of America, and is also an active PRO member of the New England Chapter of RWA, where she served as treasurer for four years. She also served as co-chair wizard critiquer with From the Heart Critique Group. In addition she served as a judge for RWA's Golden Heart Contest for many years.
Jaclyn joined Desert Breeze Publishers and cannot imagine a better place to write. To have the license to be able to create from her vivid imagination romance set in any genre, intrigue time travel, and suspense stories the way she imagines romance should be.
She met the love of her life at age sixteen and after Lou graduated from MIT, the couple raised three children and sadly lost one son to cancer. Jaclyn enjoys espresso, reading romance novels, and would love to hear from her readers. She is. hard at work on her next novel.

New Release

Caishel - Cloud Kingdoms Book One, is released by Desert Breeze Publishing. This is a fantasy romance book set on an alternate world. Castles float in the air and nahars (unicorn type of animal) are the usual mode of transport.

Caishel survives on the streets of Ardville by dressing as a boy, but she jumps at the chance to become a page in the cloud castle. Sire Ailan offers her the job as he believes her to be male. He soon finds out the truth, but keeps the knowledge to himself. The safest way to protect Caishel is to maintain her disguise. His major problem is can he protect her from himself?

Excerpt
Caishel strutted into the departure hall with a show of bravado. A few feet inside the hall, a hand pulled her to a stop.
"What are you doing here?" A boy dressed as a castle page asked aggressively. "Trying to steal something I bet. Guard!"
Caishel struggled and managed to free herself, but a guard appeared and grabbed her arm.
"What's going on here?"
"This filthy urchin," the page's tone showed he considered Caishel a piece of dirt, "has no right to be here. He's probably trying to get up to the castle so he can steal something."
A crowd gathered, attracted by the commotion.
"Is this true, boy?" The guard demanded.
"I'm going to the castle to be a page." Defiance colored her words.
"A page! You a page! The likes of you don't get hired as pages." The crowd muttered in support of the other boy's words.
"Would someone mind telling me what's going on here?"
Ailan hadn't spoken in a loud voice, but his cool authority cut through the murmuring crowd and an abrupt silence fell as everyone turned to look at him.
"This urchin shouldn't be here, Sire," the guard holding Caishel's arm replied. "We think he's trying to get up to the castle, probably to see what he can steal."
"He says he's going to be a page to a noble." The page sneered. "Of course, it's got to be a lie. None of our nobles would hire a wretch like him."
"You are?"
"Frano, Sire! Page to Sire Moir," the boy replied crisply, but his self-assurance withered under Ailan's scrutiny.
Caishel hid her amazement at the way Ailan gazed silently at the guard. The man shifted uncomfortably until the Sire flicked his hand; the guard released her.
"Thank you. Now if you would be so good as to clear the way, my page and I would like to board the transport."
The crowd instantly moved aside for the Sire. Caishel grinned wickedly at the boy who had spoken, then waggled her fingers at the end of her nose. Frano scowled, anger darkening the youthful features.
"I think the rude gesture was a little unnecessary," Ailan commented quietly as they took their seats on the transport.
"Stuck up preeve! Thinks he better than me. Why shouldn't I show him what I think of him?" Her shoulders hunched, Caishel sank down in her seat, annoyed the Sire had seen her insulting gesture.

"I can think of one good reason," Ailan replied. "Your work hours and free time will be spent with the other pages. It's not a good idea to make him your enemy before you even get to the castle!"

The Secret Door by Stephanie Burkhart

REVIEW

The Secret Door - Budapest Moon Book 4

The Budapest Moon series shows us werewolves have feelings too. There are good and bad in their species as there are in humans. Humans do not understand how a werewolf's nature and honour work and because of this the wolves must hide their true nature from fellow humans.

The Secret Door is a gripping story from beginning to end. It starts with a chase, a fight and a problem to be solved. This led me through the book as each chapter solved some problems but  brought more issues to the forefront of the story. A wolf is slain when he tries to recover his witch from an enemy. This starts a feud between the clan of the killed wolf and the one who has the witch. The fact the witch wishes to stay with her abductor means nothing to the warring clan, they believe they have the right and will not stop until the witch is returned.

Ms Burkhart shows us how even a rogue wolf can turn from bad to good if he is guided along the right path. A human can fall in love with a werewolf if the wolf can prove he is not evil. I came to a greater understanding of werewolves as I read this novel. I always assumed no matter the nature of their human side, their wolf side was evil. The author showed me this is not always so and love can bloom in the weirdest places. The characters of this book had their own lives, problems and careers before they all came together which provided them with a rich depth making the story even more alluring. Well done Ms Burkhart, The Secret Door is a tribute to your talent as a writer.

BLURB:

EXCERPT

"Can you hang garlic plants among the peppers? Even as men the garlic should keep Marcus and his brothers away." Zoltan stood at the entrance to the garden, his soulful grey-blue eyes unable to hide his disgust at the damage before him.

"We have some garlic, but not enough for the entire crop," replied Tomas.

"If Marcus sends his gypsies who aren't wolves, the garlic won't stop them." Sophia studied Zoltan. He now exuded a feral masculinity in his firm expression and an air of command in his voice. He appeared well rested and it was early in the day -- 12:30 p.m. Usually, her parents didn't get up until 2 p.m. after a transformation.

"We'll need the patrols, too." Zoltan paused, glancing at Tomas.

Tomas nodded. "I believe there's a farmer's market in Sopron's main square today. I'll send a crew out to buy as much as they can, but I don't think it will be enough."

"Send some workers to Györ to buy from their markets as well," suggested Sophia.

"Good idea." Tomas clasped his hands before him, and Sophia spied a spark of hope on his face.

"I suggest you focus on that task, Tomas. It needs to be completed by nightfall. I'm going to confront Marcus."

Sophia furrowed her brow. "Now?"

"Yes, now. Do you have an auto?"

"I do, but--"

"Then I hope you don't mind if I borrow it."

Sophia pursed her lips, disapproving of his request. "Have you thought this out?"

"Marcus is a beast. I will not cower to him, and I want him to know it."

"Then I'll come with you."

"No." His voice was firm.

"If you want to use my auto, I'm going with you."

"This isn't your problem."

"You made it mine when you brought Inna here," she retorted.
